The Coming...

...of Advent
has always been a special time for me.
Growing up in a traditional church we always
celebrated the weeks of Advent leading up to Christmas
as a preparation time in our church.

When the kids were younger, I was able to find
great books that helped us celebrate and reflect on this season.

Then, a few years ago, we added this wooden advent wreath~
shown here on Holy Experience Blog
that we add candles and votives to while moving the
carved image of Mary on a donkey each day as we
countdown until Christmas.

If you've heard of Ann Voskamp, and her book
1000 Gifts,
this wreath is made and sold by her oldest son~
It can be used for Advent as well as the Passover season.
For Passover it has an 'extension' added and the carved figure
is Jesus carrying the cross that you move through the days of Passover.

This year I've also added a 'new' Advent item~

This fun, countdown calendar may have little 'treats'
like candy or folded dollar bills in the pockets come December 1st.
Just another way to celebrate traditions and make our
preparation time special :)

Ann Voskamp's newest book,
The Greatest Gift

is all about the celebration and meaning of Advent~

Here's the webcast
Christmas at the Farm~
to enjoy over a hot cup of tea~

A change of seasons~

Where we live, in our mountain home, the seasons are changing.  Already we have had snow dust the mountains more than once this fall....
