"Little Buck"

was born yesterday, July 16, at noon time~
Our first baby animal to be born here
 at the Lookout.

He 'presented' with one hoof straight out, then his nose.
However, the other hoof was folded back.
They're supposed to have both hooves forward...
We gave Tippy some time, but she was having difficulty pushing
him out on her own, and it was taking awhile.
Jonathan said,
"Call the vet, mom."
Thankfully, I did have a number on hand in case of an emergency.
The vet was great on the phone and said we needed
to pull
HARD!

So, Jonathan helped Tippy as she labored to get the little guy out.
It was tense for a few moments, but, finally he emerged and all
was well :)

A 'little buck' he was!
And all alone~although we thought she may have been at least
carrying twins.
I have to admit we were hoping for a doe to carry on Tippy's
amazing milking line.  But, maybe next time~

He nursed like a champ at the beginning, but we've been bottle
feeding him the colostrum now.

He seems strong, and is adorable~
Of course, we will wean him and then put him up for sale.

And in the meantime, before he's weaned, there's lots of snuggles & hugs :)

A change of seasons~

Where we live, in our mountain home, the seasons are changing.  Already we have had snow dust the mountains more than once this fall....
