Our March mother & daughter co~op
was a great opportunity for a
hands-on
'field trip' down to a
local creamery
to learn all about cheese making~
About 12 girls and 7 moms
participated in making homemade mozzarella...
One of the best parts was learning the complete process
from the dairy cows right on the property
to
milking, cheese making, and selling...
of their raw milk & cheeses.
I didn't capture pictures of the whole group,
but there's enough to capture our experience :)

This guy (and his wife in the picture below) explained the process of their cheese making... It was neat how they are trying to keep their family farm going by finding marketable products to sell.
The mozzarella demonstration was filled with lots of questions and answers.
The girls gathered round to see the curds separate from the whey and then helped cut them.

In about a half hour you can make about 3/4 lb. of homemade mozzarella from a gallon of raw milk. Goat's milk works too. And, you don't have to use the microwave method if you don't want to. Easy!
I think everyone went home knowing they could repeat the process
again. Not to mention the kits we bought make a minimum of
about 10 batches :)

What a great experience for those girls to now have. I love it when we are able to do the hands on learning through our Home School group as well. I am so glad you were able to share your day with me.
We are building screen like things for our windows, since we have been having dust bowl like storms out here. It has been a very hard week for us. But, hopefully by the end of tomorrow, we will have dirt proofed our homes. :)
If you think about it, would you please pray for rain for us out here on the prairies of Colorado?
Thank you so much. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Blessings,
Amy
We have made mozzarella twice and love the glisten as it is coming together! The best part, though, is definitely eating it warm :) Great field trip, Jennifer. Have a blessed week, friend!
